- Public information specialist for the Eugene Police Department, Kerry Delf, confirming that Oregon junior linebacker Kevin Garrett was arrested and charged with a DUII and resisting arrest last week.



The 2008-09 season is closing in on the Creek and the sure sign of the proximity is the release of another prediction poll. Football was first up two weeks ago and now it is volleyball's turn as, for the third consecutive year, Stanford was selected by the conference's coaches to win the conference crown.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the board of directors will reconsider a recently adopted rule that prohibited men's basketball coaches from attending non-scholastic events in April after receiving comments that some programs used the events as "one-stop shops" for recruiting purposes.





Oregon

In football, projected starting junior linebacker Kevin Garrett was suspended indefinitely after being arrested last week for a DUII and resisting arrest.



Washington

In football, projected starting junior linebacker E.J. Savannah was ruled academically ineligible along with quarterback Dominique Blackman, while redshirt freshman tight end Chris Izbicki was charged with criminal trespass and minor in possession of alcohol. Washington received a verbal commitments from quarterback Keith Price and defensive backs Aaron Grymes and Kenneth Pinkard.



WSU

In football, offensive linemen recruits Tim Hodgdon and Alex Reitnouer will grayshirt and enroll in January and defensive lineman Jesse Feagin is academically ineligible.

In athletic department news, assistant director for physical development, Rob Oviatt resigned last week.



California

In football, senior offensive lineman Mike Tepper will miss the first two weeks of fall practice with a pulled hamstring.



Arizona

In football, sophomore punter Keenyn Crier is expected to miss the season opener while recovering from surgery to remove a cyst from his back.

In men's hoop, forward Greg Smith de-committed from the Wildcats and Arizona received a verbal commitment from forward Solomon Hill.



Oregon State

In women's soccer, assistant coach Michelle Voland will be goalkeeper coach after previously working as an assistant coach for a club team in Germany.



UCLA

In football, sophomore offensive lineman Sean Sheller will miss the season due to knee and ankle injuries suffered in an off-road vehicle accident this summer.



Stanford

In softball, assistant coach Trisha Ford was promoted to associate head coach.



Arizona State

In football, projected starting junior offensive lineman Richard Tuitu'u has quit the team.



USC

In football, redshirt freshman linebacker Chris Galippo is expected to miss the first three games of the season while recovering from back surgery over the summer.
