Rivals250 LB plans visit to Ole Miss

Four-star linebacker prospect Lamin Barrow from Marrero (John Ehret HS), La. stops short of naming a favorite, but says that Ole Miss and LSU are at the top of his list when it comes to schools where he'll likely play football next season.

"I plan to go to Ole Miss' senior camp on July 26 and to LSU's camp, and then I'll probably make a decision," Barrow said on Saturday evening.

Which school has the edge?

Barrow, a 6-foot-2, 209 pound prospect, won't say, but a couple of things are in the Rebels favor. First, Barrow has an Ole Miss offer and the Tigers have yet to extend an offer, and due to roster issues, likely won't be able to sign all the prospects they'd like to - including some of Barrow's four-star pedigree. Then there's some personal connections.

"I live next door to (2008 Ole Miss signee) Kermit Tyler's grandmother," Barrow said. "Kermit is telling me a lot of good things about Ole Miss. We went to middle school together."

In fact, while Barrow has never been to the Ole Miss campus, Tyler has Barrow expectations running high.

"I know it's going to be great" Barrow said. "Kermit's already enrolled there going to summer school and he's telling me a lot of good things about Ole Miss and the campus."

One other person is also in Barrow's ear.

"I talked to Coach (Kim) Dameron last week," Barrow said. "He's telling me great things about the facilities and campus and how the program is on the rise."

Barrow, a Rivals250 member (top 250 players in the country), has offers from SMU, Southern Miss, South Alabama, Louisiana Tech, and ULM in addition to the Ole Miss offer and has a host of interest in top tier programs like Michigan and LSU.

While he's listed as an inside linebacker, he feels he'll likely play outside linebacker in college and has played outside most of his high school career.

So far, he's only camped at Southern Miss, but he feels that he'll likely end up at an SEC school.

"Ole Miss was my first offer and that's something I'll remember," he said. "You have to be a real good player to play in the SEC and that's where I'd like to play. But right now, I'm kind of open and and taking it a day at a time."

Barrow reports a 4.5 40-yard dash as his best time; however, he turned in a disappointing 4.83 at the Baton Rouge Nike Camp, which he attributed to an undisclosed injury. However, his overall performance was impressive enough for Rivals.com recruiting experts to place him in the Rivals250 earlier this month.

He reports a 2.6 GPA and made an 18 on the ACT on his first attempt and re-took the test on June 14 to improve his score.
