In likely the biggest upset in Pac-10 history, the Cardinal – who were 40-point underdogs – shocked host USC 24-23 on a fourth-down TD pass in the final minute. Tavita Pritchard threw a 10-yard TD pass to Mark Bradford on fourth-and-goal with 49 seconds left to win it. The TB pass came after Pritchard, making his first college start, hit Richard Sherman on a fourth-and-20 play from USC's 29. Stanford scored 17 points in the fourth quarter to pull off the shocker. Notre Dame scored on a fumble return and had a touchdown drive that covered 2 yards. Third-string QB McLeod Bethel-Thompson played most of the game after Ben Olson was knocked out by an injury in the first quarter.

The Trojans saw their 35-game home winning streak come to an improbable end in a 24-23 loss to visiting Stanford, which was a 40-point underdog. John David Booty threw four interceptions, and the Trojans gave up 17 fourth-quarter points. USC had five turnovers overall and also had an extra-point attempt blocked. USC was held to 95 rushing yards on 38 attempts.

Alex Brink was 27 of 50 for 369 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception. Brink set a school record for career passing yards with 8,923. Jason Gesser had the old record with 8,830.
