The Wildcats' offense struggled for a half, then got into gear in a 45-24 victory over I-AA Northern Arizona. Junior QB Willie Tuitama threw a career-high five TD passes, three of which came in a 24-point third quarter. Arizona had scored just seven points in an opening-game loss to BYU. The Sun Devils fell behind 14-0 to Colorado in the first quarter. No problem. QB Rudy Carpenter threw for 269 yards and three TDs to spark a 33-14 victory. ASU led 19-14 at halftime and coasted in the second half. An aggressive defense limited the Buffs to 204 yards. One negative: The Sun Devils had 12 penalties for 136 yards. The Golden Bears looked to have an easy win, but had to hold on to beat Colorado State 34-28. Cal led 34-14 before the Rams scored twice within a minute late in the fourth quarter. Cal WR DeSean Jackson scored on a 73-yard reverse, giving him two 70-yard-plus TDs in two games. Next: Saturday, vs. Louisiana Tech.
QB Dennis Dixon rolled up 368 yards of total offense and accounted for four TDs as the Ducks mauled Michigan 39-7. Oregon led 32-7 at halftime. Dixon threw for 292 yards and three TDs and ran for another 76 yards. His rushing TD came on a fake Statue of Liberty play. Oregon finished with 624 yards of offense.

Two Beavers quarterbacks combined to throw six interceptions in a 34-3 loss at Cincinnati. Sean Canfield and Lyle Moevao each threw three picks, and the Beavers also missed a field goal and had a punt blocked in just their third game in the Eastern time zone since 1987. The Beavers outgained the Bearcats 310-229.

The Bruins built a 20-3 halftime lead, then held on for a 27-17 victory over BYU. The Cougars had their 11-game winning streak snapped. A 3-yard TD run by Chris Markey with 1:12 left iced the victory for the Bruins, who held BYU to 44 yards rushing on 25 carries. BYU QB Max Hall threw for 391 yards against an experienced Bruins secondary. Next: Saturday, at Utah.

The Huskies snapped Boise State's 14-game wining streak with a 24-10 victory. QB Jake Locker ran for one touchdown and threw for another as the Huskies improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2001. There were no points scored in the second half. Next: Saturday, vs. Ohio State.
QB Alex Brink had a monster game, throwing for 469 yards and five touchdowns on a school-record 38 completions in a 45-17 pasting of San Diego State. Brink threw for 304 yards in the first half against the Aztecs, who were playing their season-opener.
