The pre-season prediction waters continue to churn at the Creek as pre-season women's soccer prognostications were unveiled by the coaches and UCLA was selected as the top team for the fourth consecutive year.

Meanwhile, at NCAA HQ, the NCAA changed the schedule for the 2008 College World Series and will have it begin on Saturday instead of the usual Friday in order to give teams an extra day to prepare and provide flexibility in the case of weather-related delays. Also, it was recommended that men's golf expand from three regional sites to six.





Stanford

In football, Stanford received a verbal commitment from punter Matt Zubyk.



Oregon

In football, defensive lineman Victor Filipe is transferring, defensive back Jameel Dowling has left the team and tight end Ryan Keeling broke his hand but is expected to play special teams in the season opener against Houston.



Arizona State

In football, defensive lineman Tranell Morant is expected to miss two months with a knee injury.



Washington

In men's hoop, the Huskies received a verbal commitment from guard Scott Suggs and finalized their schedule which highlights non-conference games against Long Beach State, Oklahoma State, Pitt and LSU.



California

In football, running back Will Ta'ufo'ou will miss one month with a knee injury.




WSU

In men's hoop, the Cougars added The Citadel to their schedule for a game at Seattle's Key Arena on December 20.

In football, the Cougars are expected to announce Oklahoma State as an opponent for the Seattle game on August 30, 2008. Defensive lineman Adam Hineline left the team.

In soccer, former Trinidad & Tobago U-23 player Dane Christian was added as a volunteer assistant coach.



Oregon State

In football, starting receiver Sammie Stroughter has taken an indefinite leave of absence due to personal reasons.

In men's hoop, junior swingman Jack McGillis has elected to transfer while the Beavers will begin their tour of Italy on September 2.



USC

In football, running back Emmanuel Moody will transfer and receiver Jamere Holland was dismissed from the team.

In men's hoop, USC will play in the inaugural Anaheim Classic against San Diego beginning Thanksgiving evening.

In women's hoop, the Women of Troy received a verbal commitment from 6-3 post player Michelle Jenkins.



Arizona

In football, defensive lineman Levar Brown and linebacker Vuna Tuihalamaka were declared academically ineligible for the season



UCLA

In football, starting fullback Michael Pitre may miss the season opener against Stanford with a knee injury.
