Keiland going home

Chatham (Va.) Hargrave Military running back Keiland Williams has made his decision and just signed his Letter of Intent with LSU over Southern Cal. He was faxing the letter to his mom as we spoke and she will sign and fax to the LSU football office. This is a great get for head coach Les Miles and adds to an impressive recruiting class.

"LSU is a great program and I like the coaches," said the 6-foot-0, 215-pounder. "This was a family decision and I prayed about it last night and felt that LSU was the best place for me. It's home."

USC had made a strong push for the star running back.

"It was a tough decision," he said. "That's why I waited, it was just so tough so I didn't want to rush it. USC is a great school and I like the coaches, but LSU was just a better fit."

Playing time is always a factor and Williams feels good about his chances early.

"Yes sir, I think there's playing time available," he said. "The running back situation is open there and the coaches will play the best players."

The SEC came into play as well.

"I love the SEC conference and LSU is one of the best teams each year," he said. "Everything about LSU is the best in the SEC."

Williams rushed for more than 1,000 yards last year at Hargrave, the first time a tailback has done that at the school. He was supposed to sign his Letter of Intent on Wednesday at 10:30AM EST, but decided he wasn't ready yet. The last few days all sources at Hargrave said Williams was leaning towards USC, but had a change of heart and decided today.

"I really didn't know until this morning," he said. "Like I said, I just prayed on it and everything became more clear to me."

Williams committed to LSU back on Jan. 23. This puts a fitting end to the class of 2006 for LSU, a tremendous job by Les Miles despite the effects of Hurricane Katrina. LSU finished 7th in our Rivals.com recruiting rankings.

Williams teammate at Hargrave, wide receiver Vidal Hazelton, is expected to sign with either USC or Penn State this weekend.
