Peterson, White handle Red Raiders

NORMAN, Okla. - Adrian Peterson and Jason White continue to set records for No. 2 Oklahoma.

Making his first start, Peterson rushed for 146 yards on 22 carries and White threw three touchdown passes to break the school career record as the Sooners defeated Big 12 Conference foe Texas Tech, 28-13.

The victory was the fifth straight for the Sooners (4-0, 1-0 Big 12 South) over Texas Tech (3-2, 1-1 South) and improved Bob Stoops' home record at Oklahoma to 34-1.

The 6-2, 210-pound Peterson, who extended his school freshman record of 100-yard games to four, opened the scoring with a one-yard touchdown eight minutes into the first quarter after setting up the score with a 61-yard run.

He broke a 28-yard run early in the second quarter and kept the drive alive with a two-yard run on 4th-and-1 from the Tech 34. White finished the drive with a 10-yard pass to Travis Wilson to give the Sooners a 14-3 lead midway through the period. The scoring pass was the 52nd of White's career, tying Josh Heupel's school record.

White took sole possession of the record four minutes into the third period when he hit J.D. Runnels with a 13-yard score. Early in the fourth, White, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, iced the game when he avoided the pass rush and as he was being tackled and found Wilson all alone in the back of the end zone for a nine-yard score to make it 28-6.

Oklahoma's defense limited the high-powered Texas Tech offense - which was averaging 38 points per game - to a touchdown and two field goals. Quarterback Sonny Cumbie, who entered the game leading the nation with an average of 427 yards of total offense, threw for 369 yards but tossed three interceptions. He completed 36-of-55 attempts.

White went 15-for-24 for 151 yards for the Sooners, who won their Big 12 opener for the fifth straight season.

Texas Tech junior Taurean Henderson, who was named Big 12 Conference Player of the Week after rushing for 169 yards against Kansas last week, was held to 65 yards on 17 carries.
