Gets bigs involved
1

Maybe one of the more disappointing aspects of Nebraska's exhibition win over Midland University was how little of an impact senior forward Brandon Ubel and senior center Andre Almeida had in the game. They ended with eight and nine points, respectively, but considering they were facing a team who's tallest player was four inches shorter than them, they're production should have been much more significant. If the Huskers are going to have any chance at competing against better competition, those two are going to have to step up.
Get it going on offense
2

As expected, Nebraska had trouble establishing an offensive rhythm in its first game under new head coach Tim Miles. What wasn't expected was how off the Huskers would be at times in their scoring. At one point in the first half, NU went roughly seven full minutes without a field goal, which was an all too familiar sight for Husker fans. Getting more out of their post players will certainly help, but Nebraska also needs guys like Dylan Talley and Ray Gallegos to put the ball on the floor and attack the basket.
Be ready to play
3

The Huskers could get away with an off night against a team like Midland, but that obviously won't be the case moving forward, starting tonight. While Southern may not seem like much of a challenge on paper, the Jaguars were right with Iowa State until the Cyclones finally pulled away in the second half. Keep in mind that Nebraska was reportedly manhandled by ISU in a neutral site scrimmage prior to the season. Southern is much bigger and more physical than Midland, and it has players who can put up points. If the Huskers come out like they did on Wednesday, this could be a rough official start to the Miles era.

Head coach Tim Miles on his team's performance in the exhibition opener:

"I hoped we would've played better offensively. I wish we would've run our steps with a little more crispness. I thought we practiced better, but you are in a controlled environment in practice, too. Games are a little more chaotic. That's the biggest thing. Defensively, I thought (Midland) would get some threes on us that would drive us crazy. They would probably scrap and hustle and that would drive us crazy. That all happened. But I thought that was okay."
Sophomore guard David Rivers on NU's first game under Miles:

"It was exciting for sure. Everything was new. We had a new coach, a new offense, and new players. We still have a long way to go."
