September 16, 2011

&prIt's a big weekend for high school football in the Southeast. writer Joe Dayan will be on hand to watch the top team in the nation, Don Bosco Prep, travel to Florida to take on Manatee.

While that game may steal the headlines in the region, it's far from the only strong game. AMP videographer Nick Krueger will be at the Georgia Dome this weekend where six high school games will be played over Friday and Saturday, including No. 16 Sandy Creek against Drew on Saturday afternoon.

And Southeast Analyst Keith Niebuhr will be on the sidelines while No. 14 Camden County takes on Windsor Forest on Friday night.

Lots going on in the Southeast. But that's not to say there aren't good games in other regions. writer Douglas Benton will be on hand for two stellar matchups in California as No. 8 De La Salle takes on Stockton St. Mary's on Friday night, then No. 78 Grant meets Stockton Lincoln on Saturday.

In the Atlantic East, publisher Andrew Chiappazzi will be on hand for another top-notch game in the always tough WPIAL Class AAA Parkway division as Blackhawk travels to West Allegheny.

And in the Heartland, publisher Bob Hovey has called Friday's game between Wichita Northwest and Wichita East a "must-see."

That's just the beginning. Here's a full look at Where We'll Be this weekend:

Find your region: Atlantic East | Heartland | Lakes | South | West (based on where game is played)

Rankings as of 9/12
No. 1 Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep at No. 80 Bradenton (Fla.) Manatee Joe Dayan
Friday: The top team in the nation travels to Florida to take on its second nationally-ranked opponent in as many weeks. Manatee, which lost in double-overtime to Olney (Md.) Good Counsel in its first game bounced back with a 48-6 win last weekend over Sarasota (Fla.) Riverview. Is Manatee up to the task of taking down No. 1?
No. 5 Gaffney (S.C.) High at Duncan (S.C.) Byrnes Dallas Jackson, Senior Analyst (@RivalsHigh)
Friday: Gaffney has made a major move up the RivalsHigh 100 by crushing fellow Palmetto State powers, Roebuck (S.C) Dorman and Greenwood (S.C) High and now it takes on the perennial flag bearer, Byrnes, at Byrnes. The Indians could push for a national title despite a lack of out-of-state games if they continue to impress against in-state powers. Byrnes already suffered a loss this season to Myrtle Beach (S.C.) High and a 2-2 start would be unusual.
No. 8 Concord (Calif.) De La Salle vs. Stockton (Calif.) St. Mary's Douglas Benton (@NorCalPreps)
Friday: De La Salle had a week off to regroup from a slow start despite beating Bellarmine 26-23 in double overtime. The Spartans come in on a 26-game winning streak with Wisconsin-bound signal caller Bart Houston at the helm for each victory. Also look for linebackers Michael Barton (California) and national recruit junior Michael Hutchings. For St. Mary's, quarterback Bowe Merin has played well in his first two games and running back Jalen Ward is one of the most productive backs in Northern California. Whether the Rams have the defense to slow down the Spartans will be the key in this one.
No. 14 Kingsland (Ga.) Camden County vs. Savannah (Ga.) Windsor Forest Keith Niebuhr, Southeast Analyst (@KeithRIVALS)
Friday: Camden County junior quarterback Brice Ramsey committed to Georgia in July even though he had yet to start a varsity game. Thus far in 2011, the 6-3, 195-pounder is 10-of-16 for 134 yards and two touchdowns through two games. Another Camden junior to watch is cornerback J.J. Green, who has two pass breakups and has been playing very well.
No. 16 Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek vs. Atlanta (Ga.) Drew Nick Krueger, AMP Videographer
Saturday: Nationally-ranked Sandy Creek features four commitments to BCS programs, including four-star Auburn commit JaQuay Williams. This game is at the Georgia Dome as part of the Great American Football Classic.
No. 32 Miramar (Fla.) High vs. Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast Josh Darrow
Friday: One of the early matchups of talent in Southeast Florida. Miramar is one of the teams that is favored in 8A, led by five-star corner Tracy Howard and a pair of stellar wide receivers in four-starMalcolm Lewis and three-star Devonte Mathis. Defensively, three-star DE Trevon Coley leads the charge. For Northeast, three-star athlete Kevis Jones is a UCF commit, while three-star wide receiver Jeremy Glinton holds nearly 20 offers.
No. 44 Miami (Fla.) Central at Cocoa (Fla.) High Eric Clark (@Eric_Clark28)
Friday: Cocoa completes a three-game gauntlet against three RivalsHigh 100 teams. The Tiger defense has to stop Central's high-octane offense. A Cocoa win keeps the Tigers in the FV Top 25. A Rocket victory solidifies their run in Class 6A.
No. 60 Belle Glade (Fla.) Glades Central vs. Delray Beach (Fla.) American Heritage Jason Pugh
Thursday: Glades Central is led by a trio of three-star Division I prospects in wide receiver Jaime Wilson, linebacker Dominique Gibson and athlete Cre'von LeBlanc. American Heritage counters with three three-stars of its own in wide receiver Cameron Posey, offensive lineman Kelly Parfitt and kicker and Georgia commit Marshall Morgan.
No. 78 Sacramento (Calif.) Grant vs. Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln Douglas Benton (@NorCalPreps)
Saturday: The Game of the Week could also be a Sac-Joaquin Section Division I semifinal or championship preview depending how the enrollment breaks down. Grant comes in banged up without starting quarterback Terry Shine and a pair of talented linebackers, so expect to see an expanded role for five-star recruit Shaq Thompson. Lincoln has been impressive in a 3-0 start with the junior backfield of quarterback Zack Greenlee and running back Justin Davis with linebacker Leon Rapisura the catalyst for the defense.
No. 90 Piscataway (N.J.) High at Monmouth Junction (N.J.) South Brunswick Matt Hladik
Friday: South Brunswick made noise last week by shocking Sayreville and earned a spot in the NJVarsity Top 20 in the process. Piscataway took care of business as usual against Edison, and faces a stiff road test in its second game.

Delaware, Maryland, N. Carolina, New England, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, S. Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia
Virginia Beach (Va.) Ocean Lakes vs. Virginia Beach (Va.) Bayside Mike Farrell, National Analyst (@rivalsmike)
Thursday: Ocean Lakes has a pair of Virginia commits in Army All-American defensive end Eli Harold and wide receiver Anthony Cooper. Ocean Lakes also has some impressive underclassmen, including quarterback Corwin Cutler, defensive tackle Demetri McGill and 2015 future star Jason Lewis, while Bayside has 2013 running back Taquan Mizzell and 2014 standout safety Quin Blanding.
Columbia (Md.) Atholton at Clarksville (Md.) River Hill Dave Lomonico
Friday: A heated rivalry game between two of the state's best; the winner may determine which team wins the conference title.
Pomfret (Md.) McDonough at La Plata (Md.) Westlake Sid Thomas
Friday: A conference showdown between the best team in Maryland's Class 2A division (McDonough) against a talented Class 3A team (Westlake) that could make a deep playoff run.
Old Tappan (N.J.) High at Paramus (N.J.) Paramus Catholic Pat Rice
Friday: It's a rematch of last year's playoff classic and an opportunity to see four-star athlete Devin Fuller again.
King (N.C.) West Stokes at Mount Airy (N.C.) High Deana King (@NCPreps)
Friday: It's Week Five in North Carolina and we already have a possible conference championship showdown. Quarterback Austin Fleming of West Stokes is a Division I prospect.
Raleigh (N.C.) Millbrook at Raleigh (N.C.) Broughton Josh Jenkins
Friday: The game features two of North Carolina's top running backs in four-star Keith Marshall (Millbrook) and three-star Virginia Tech recruit Chris Mangus (Broughton). Broughton LB Drew Davis is also a Division I prospect, committed to Minnesota.
Gastonia (N.C.) Ashbrook at Shelby (N.C.) Crest Anthony Perkins
Friday: This game features five-star DE Jonathan Bullard and three-star Florida recruit Rhaheim Ledbetter, both of Crest.
Asheboro (N.C.) Southwestern Randolph vs. Randleman (N.C.) High Ben Doster (@WakeRivals)
Friday: Checking out Randleman offensive tackle Joel Suggs, a Wake Forest commitment.
Beaver Falls (Pa.) Blackhawk at Imperial (Pa.) West Allegheny Andrew Chiappazzi (@achiappazzi)
Friday: Battle of the quarterbacks featuring West Allegheny senior Dylan Bongiorni and 2014 Blackhawk star-in-the-making Chandler Kincade.
Philadelphia (Pa.) Father Judge at State College (Pa.) High Tim Mack
Friday: Two years removed from its state final appearance, State College is still trying to get back into form behind senior QB Josh Weakland.
Pittston (Pa.) High at Mountain Top (Pa.) Crestwood Mike Iorfino
Friday: Senior OL Tony Morgante has helped propel Crestwood to a 2-0 start in a wide-open District 2.
Columbia (Pa.) High at Birdsboro (Pa.) Daniel Boone Rebeka Rice
Friday: Three-star Columbia WR Mike Burke has to hope he and his team have enough for Daniel Boone's dual-threat QB Tom Bodolus.
Lampeter (Pa.) Lampeter-Strasburg at Camp Hill (Pa.) Cedar Cliff Lucas Campbell
Friday: Checking in on 2013 rising star TE Adam Breneman and Cedar Cliff's 2-0 start.
Norfolk (Va.) Christian vs. Suffolk (Va.) Nansemond Suffolk Academy Mike Farrell, National Analyst (@rivalsmike)
Friday: Four Virginia commits - Army All-American linebacker Kwontie Moore, defensive end Courtnye Wynn, wide receiver Mario Nixon and athlete Wilfred Wahee - all play for Norfolk Christian.
Richmond (Va.) Benedictine School vs. Richmond (Va.) The Collegiate School Brian Mohr
Friday: One of Virginia's top linemen will square off against one of the top 2013 quarterbacks in the state. Benedictine has versatile defensive end Nigel Williams, who held major offers from a number of schools before committing to Virginia Tech. Benedictine boasts a receiver to watch in Charley Meyer, and while Collegiate's Wilton Speight hasn't yet landed an offer, he's looking to be a top quarterback in his class.
Williamsburg (Va.) Lafayette vs. Williamsburg (Va.) Bruton Brian Mohr
Friday: It's a rivalry game between two 2-0 teams in Williamsburg as Bruton faces sleeper two-star Thomas Smith, who had five touchdowns a week ago. A versatile wide receiver and safety, Smith has major upside and committed to Virginia Tech in the summer.
Upper Marlboro (Md.) Wise at Greenbelt (Md.) Roosevelt Reggie Turner
Saturday: An important conference match featuring two hard-hitting squads with plenty of top-end talent.
Gaithersburg (Md.) Quince Orchard at Burtonsville (Md.) Paint Branch Dave Lomonico
Saturday: Juggernaut Quince Orchard goes on the road against an upstart Paint Branch team that's thinking upset.
Ocean (N.J.) Ocean Township at Long Branch (N.J.) High Pat Rice
Saturday: Two years ago, the matchup between these two teams was a great game. Top players for Long Branch are three-star offensive lineman Ryan Brodie and junior running back Dwight Clark. Ocean has an underrated back in Greg Moore.
Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith vs Chesapeake (Va.) Indian River Mike Farrell, National Analyst (@rivalsmike)
Saturday: Running back J.C. Coleman, a Virginia Tech commit from Oscar Smith, is one of the most dominating players in the state this year. Oscar Smith also is loaded with young players, and there is little doubt a few names will emerge from 2013, 2014 and even 2015 on this trip. Indian River isn't loaded with prospects, but 2014 monster defensive end Andrew Brown is worth the price of admission alone. The 6-foot-4, 280-pounder is a man child and already considered one of the top prospects in his class. The camp warrior will be tested against Oscar Smith, a team with a spread offense that won't allow him to get after the quarterback much, but just watching him in pads will be a treat.
Powhatan (Va.) Blessed Sacrament Huguenot vs. Christchurch (Va.) High Brian Mohr
Saturday: Blessed Sacrament boasts talented and underrated lineman Augie Conte, a Virginia Tech commit going against likely his toughest test of the season in Christchurch. Christchurch boasts two Division I linemen in Will Smith (Wake Forest commit) and Win Homer (Boston College commit), as well as a few other potential Division I recruits to monitor for 2013.

Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas
Bryan (Texas) High at The Woodlands (Texas) College Park Brian Perroni, Southwest Analyst (@bperroni)
Thursday: Both teams have their fair share of young talent but Bryan is led by a very athletic junior quarterback in Chris Johnson.
Wichita (Kan.) Bishop Carroll vs. Wichita (Kan.) Southeast Bob Hovey (@hovpen)
Thursday: Both teams are 1-1 on the season with the game featuring Carroll junior quarterback prospect Zeke Palmer, who has thrown for 325 yards in his first two games as the Carroll starter. We'll also be taking a second look at Southeast running back Braden Smith who has rushed for 320 yards, caught 156 yards in passes and run a kickoff back 99 yards.
Midwest City (Okla.) High at Edmond (Okla.) Santa Fe Justin Mitchell (@justinrmitchell)
Thursday: Santa Fe has been one of the surprises in Class 6A this season but young talent like QB Justice Hansen and ATH Trevan Smith have been making plays for the Wolves. Midwest City has been one of the top programs in the class for years now and looks to keep that trend going. Three-star Tulsa RB commit James Flanders will help the Bombers' cause.
Wichita (Kan.) Northwest vs. Wichita (Kan.) East Bob Hovey (@hovpen)
Friday: It's rare that we hit the GWAL up on a Friday but this is a must-see game with Northwest linebacking duo of Bennett Moore (Army offer) and Jacob Davis (North Dakota State offer) coming off what most consider an upset of Dodge City. Wichita East features wide receiver DaAnte Brandon who at 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds has 13 receptions for 277 yards and five touchdowns in his first two games on receptions from quarterback Desmond Mcgee.
Shreveport (La.) Woodlawn at Bastrop (La.) High Brian Perroni, Southwest Analyst (@bperroni)
Friday: This match-up features the No. 2 and No. 3 prospects in the Pelican State - Torshiro Davis and Denzel Devall - going head-to-head.
Liberty (Mo.) Liberty North at Kansas City (Mo.) Staley Pete Scantlebury (@PeteScantlebury)
Friday: Staley is led by Missouri commit Morgan Steward and heavily-recruited defensive end Nathanael Lohn.
Tulsa (Okla.) Riverfield Country Day at Seminole (Okla.) Strother Justin Mitchell (@justinrmitchell)
Friday: This is not your typical Friday night matchup for the crew but they are traveling to Seminole, Okla., to cover the inaugural football season for the Strother Yellowjackets. Their home matchup against Riverfield has the community excited and could be the biggest thing to happen to the tiny Class C school.
Metairie (La.) Rummel at New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine Brian Perroni, Southwest Analyst (@bperroni)
Saturday: St. Augustine sophomore running back Leonard Fournette already has close to double-digit offers after a big freshman campaign and Rummel junior quarterback Damian Williams is likely to a big-time recruit next year.
Kirkwood (Mo.) High at Florissant (Mo.) Hazelwood Central Bill Gunn (@mosportsdotcom)
Saturday: The Kirkwood Pioneers, the No. 3-ranked team in Class 5, visit the young Hazelwood Central Hawks - a team that starts nine sophomores.

Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Wisconsin
Alliance (Ohio) Marlington at Louisville (Ohio) High Josh Helmholdt, Midwest Analyst (@JoshHelmholdt)
Thursday: Last year, Marlington running backs Alden Hill and Dymonte Thomas combined to rush for over 3,700 yards and 52 touchdowns. They are back this year running behind Michigan State-bound offensive lineman Zach Higgins. Hill is committed to Tennessee, while Thomas just made a commitment to Michigan this past weekend.
Huber Heights (Ohio) Wayne at Trotwood (Ohio) Trotwood-Madison Josh Helmholdt, Midwest Analyst (@JoshHelmholdt) MarcGivlerBG (@MarcGivlerBG)
Friday: This game always features top talent, and this year's version is no different. Trotwood-Madison is led by three-star safety Bam Bradley and junior prospects Cameron Burrows and Mike McCray, who both hold multiple Division I offers already. Wayne features 2013 offensive lineman Lovell Peterson, who already holds an Illinois offer.
Midlothian (Ill.) Bremen at Oak Forest (Ill.) High Tim O'Halloran (@EDGYTIM)
Friday: State's top running back prospects square off in Bremen's three-star David Smith and Oak Forest's three-star Tevin Coleman.
Chicago (Ill.) St. Patrick at LaGrange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy Tim O'Halloran (@EDGYTIM)
Saturday: Two ESCC conference schools meet in a Saturday afternoon battle.

Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee
Ocala (Fla.) Trinity Catholic at Gainesville (Fla.) High Chris Nee, Florida Analyst (@RivalsCNee)
Thursday: Gainesville is led by USF commitment, cornerback Chris Bivins, and Syracuse commitment, linebacker Tashon Whitehurst. A pair of juniors to keep an eye on at Gainesville is running back Raphael Webb and wide receiver Chris Thompson. Trinity Catholic counters with senior wide receiver Diquan Jefferson. Sophomore quarterback Reid Carlton, an imposing figure at 6-foot-3, 220-pounds, is also being gradually transitioned into the starting role for the Celtics.
Monticello (Fla.) Jefferson County at Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby Chris Nee, Florida Analyst (@RivalsCNee)
Friday: Godby is loaded with talent as displayed by having at least six Division I prospects in its senior class - tight end Laith Harlow (Oklahoma), defensive back T.J. Davis (Auburn), athlete Dennis Andrews (Georgia Tech), linebacker Jakarri Thomas (Arkansas), tight end Brandon Holifield (Miami) and linebacker Kadeem Thomas (undecided). Its talent runs deep though with prospects such as junior wide receiver Jamaul Vickers, junior defensive back Khalid Thomas, sophomore safety Deon Singleton, and freshman athlete Jaylin Hayward. Jefferson County has a pair of senior prospects drawing interest in defensive end Denzel Whitfield and athlete Alphonso Footman.
Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic at Tampa (Fla.) Plant Joe Dayan
Friday: In the first game of a doubleheader pitting two Florida teams against New Jersey opponents, two teams with national reputations go head-to-head. A ton of talent will be on the field for both teams.
Oviedo (Fla.) High at Altamonte Springs (Fla.) Lake Brantley PJ Smith
Friday: The Lions and Patriots are both 2-0 and battling for Seminole County bragging rights. Oviedo has outscored its first two opponents 68-2 while Lake Brantley has won a couple of close games. Lake Brantley is led by three-star athlete Ti'on Green.
Lovejoy (Ga.) High vs. Morrow (Ga.) High Nick Krueger, AMP Videographer
Friday: South Carolina commit Rico McWilliams leads Lovejoy in the opening game of the Great American Football Classic at the Georgia Dome.

Friday: Aberdeen features the top in-state 2012 recruit in Rivals100 defensive end Channing Ward as well as 2013 linebacker prospect Justin Lucas and 2014 safety Sammie Burroughs. They will try to slow down West Bolivar 2013 running back Kailo Moore, an Ole Miss commitment.
Lawrenceville (Ga.) Central Gwinnett vs. Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett Nick Krueger, AMP Videographer
Saturday: Two of Georgia's best in the class of 2013 square off - Auburn commit Trey Johnson and DE Reginald Carter.

Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming
Burbank (Calif.) Burroughs vs. Nehall (Calif.) Hart Dave Rogahn, Dave Keefer (@DaveKeefer)
Thursday: Hart bounced back from an opening loss with an impressive win last week and has its fan base excited again for the glory years. Burroughs will test them with rushing star Zander Anding who had 277 yards rushing against Hart league foe Saugus.

Thursday: Powerhouse Union takes on the always-tough Westview Wildcats. Union features defensive back AJ Anderson, quarterback Kaben Humphrey-Butler who holds Big Sky Offers, and summer combine standout Brandon Brody-Heim.
Palmdale (Calif.) Knight at Canyon County (Calif.) Canyon Dave Rogahn, Dave Keefer (@DaveKeefer)
Friday: Canyon (1-0) is off to a good start behind its one-two punch of quarterback Jonathan Jerozal and running back Max Archuleta. That spells trouble for Knight (1-0) which showed a tendency to give up the big play in its opening win.
El Dorado Hills (Calif.) Oak Ridge at Loomis (Calif.) Del Oro Michael Benton
Friday: Oak Ridge won this game 44-24 last year, but Del Oro was in the midst of early season struggles and will look for some redemption at home on Friday. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 4 in Northern California paced by the running of Nick O'Sullivan and Brandon Monroe and get solid two-way play from Alex Bertrando. BYU wide receiver commit Dylan Collie headlines things for Oak Ridge with 14 catches for 266 yards and four touchdowns this year. This is a good late non-league as Del Oro (Sierra Foothill League) and Oak Ridge (Delta River) go into two of the toughest leagues in the area.
Boulder (Colo.) Fairview vs. Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Mountain Vista Christian James
Friday: Two teams hoping to set themselves up for a run in conference play.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Cimarron at Las Vegas (Nev.) Faith Lutheran Will Levi
Friday: Cimarron running back DeMaryae Williams is one of the best athletes in the state and is coming off of a 200-yard performance. He will be looking to take on the revamped Crusaders.
