Bayou vs. River Region All-Star game is set

THIBODAUX - The 11th annual HTV-Lions Club Bayou vs. River Region All-Star Showdown will be played in John L. Guidry Stadium on the campus of Nicholls State University, on Friday, December 17 with kickoff at 7 p.m.

Tickets for the game cost $7.00 and can be purchased at the gate. All of the proceeds go to college scholarships and to Thibodaux Lion's Club causes such as the Lions' Cripple Children's Camp and Eye Foundation.

The game will also be tape-delayed by HTV-10, and the times of the rebroadcast will be announced later. NFL Draft Analyst Mike Detillier and HTV 10's Stan Gravois will provide play-by-play and commentary.

The all-star game features talented prep athletes from H.L Bourgeois, Ellender, South Lafourche, Assumption, South Terrebonne, Thibodaux, Central Lafourche, E.D. White, Terrebonne, and Vanderbilt to represent the Bayou Team, while the River Region's squad consists of standout high school athletes from Destrehan, East St. John, St. James, Hahnville, St. Charles, West St. John, Lutcher, and Riverside.

Destrehan head coach Chris Shroud will lead the River Region, while Terrebonne High School head coach Gary Hill will lead the Bayou team.

This year's contest will mark the fifth consecutive year that the River Region has participated in the game. Prior to the River Region joining the game, the all-star bout slated Terrebonne Parish schools against Lafourche/Assumption Parish Schools with the Lafourche/Assumption team winning all six previous engagements. The all-star Bayou vs. River series is tied at, 2-2 with the Bayou Region taking the 2009 contest, 17-13.

Brandon Jacobs of the New York Giants and alum of Assumption holds the all-time rushing record in the game with 230 yards set in 2000. First-team all-Western Athletic Conference player from Louisiana Tech and South Terrebonne graduate, Phillip Livas, is second behind Jacobs running for 201 yards in the 2006 game.

The Thibodaux Lion's Club is the primary sponsor for the event and strives to award not only student-athletes, but support group members as well. Last season alone, the Thibodaux Lion's Club distributed a total of $9,000 in scholarships to student-athletes and cheerleaders that participated in the game.
