Pac-Tending Plus - Football

Oregon entered the 2010 season as the conference favorite and continues on the title path while Stanford - the lone remaining contender for the crown - kept pace with a win over rival California. Arizona visits Oregon for this week's marquee match-up. CougZone takes you on a whirlwind tour of what's going through the minds of the conference's coaches as the 2010 football season continues.

Jim Harbaugh - Stanford

Personnel - None.

Quote - "Marecic is extremely good against the run." [re: running back/linebacker Owen Marecic].

Other Stuff - Says the offensive line has only given up four sacks this year and that it seems like this year, the Cardinal have tended to get the best effort of the opposing team.

Mike Stoops - Arizona

Personnel - None.

Quote - "They probably get 30 in a 10-minute period." [re: the number of plays he thinks Oregon gets in during a 10-minute time period]

Other Stuff - Says Oregon and Oklahoma State have "done it the right way" in building their program by focusing on facilities and getting results from that focus.

Mike Riley - Oregon State

Personnel - None.

Quote - "I think people just noticed him more." [re: defensive lineman Stephen Paea having a good game against USC].

Other Stuff - Says it would be disappointing if they could not get six wins and get bowl eligible.

Lane Kiffin - USC

Personnel - Quarterback Matt Barkley is expected back but if not, Mitch Mustain will start.

Quote - "He won the last eight in this match-up and never treated it any different than any other game." [re: how former head coach Pete Carroll approached the game against Notre Dame].

Other Stuff - Says the offense was "horrible" and they played as bad as they could play in Corvallis and couldn't "even fathom" that they managed to score seven points.

Rick Neuheisel - UCLA

Personnel - None.

Quote - "The five extra losses certainly play into that, there's no question about it." [re: playing a nine-game conference schedule gives Pac-10 five extra losses, preventing some of them from reaching bowl eligibility status].

Other Stuff - Says all quarterback protection begins with the offensive line and the key to productivity at the quarterback position.

Dennis Erickson - Arizona State

Personnel - None.

Quote - "There was never an indecision with that, I don't know where that came from." [re: speculation that quarterback Steven Threet might not start against UCLA]

Other Stuff - Says they have a lot of youth and Threet has made his mistakes but that they will stick with him as the starter.

Chip Kelly - Oregon

Personnel - None.

Quote - "We are really six deep there. The group as a whole has really been the backbone of our defense." [re: Oregon's linebacker depth].

Other Stuff - Says he is not sure what Arizona quarterback is going to start but they are preparing for both Matt Scott and Nick Foles.

Steve Sarkisian - Washington

Personnel - None.

Quote - "The biggest improvement he's made is his ability to play multiple positions." [re: the versatility of linebacker Mason Foster]

Other Stuff - Says Quinton Richardson is playing better as the year progresses and says Cal's Memorial Stadium has "by far" the smallest visitor's locker room in the Pac-10

Jeff Tedford - California

Personnel - None.

Quote - "It's part of the game." [re: going from losing their rivalry game to Stanford to playing Washington in the next week].

Other Stuff - Says one part of the Memorial Stadium rejuvenation project will be done next July [Stadium will be ready in 2013] and former Oregon quarterback Akili Smith was down at a JC in the San Diego area and Smith inquired about employment opportunities on his staff and Tedford found a position for Smith as an administrative assistant
