Kentucky tops Vandy in Lexington

Kentucky's Randall Cobb accounted for 270 total yards and two touchdowns, as the Wildcats beat Vanderbilt 38-20 in Lexington on Saturday afternoon.

Cobb's second run, a 73-yard run on a direct snap from center early in the third quarter, put UK up after the Wildcats had trailed, 13-10, at the half. Cobb gained 170 yards on 10 carries alone.

The Commodores built that lead with a fantastic first half of offense that totaled nearly 250 yards. Ryan Fowler kicked a pair of field goals, and quarterback Larry Smith added a 4-yard scoring run.

But the 'Cats ran roughshod over VU in the second half, with Derrick Locke leading the way with a pair of rushing touchdowns of 1 and 83 yards.

Locke's 1-yarder put the 'Cats up by 11 with 5:06 left in the third.

Mike Hartline hit Chris Matthews with a 55-yard strike to extend the lead in the fourth quarter, then Locke's 83-yard dash about five minutes later accounted for UK's final score.

VU's Jared Funk hit Jordan Matthews with a 4-yard scoring toss with 2:33 left to pull the Commodores closer.

The Wildcats out-gained VU 580 to 400 on the day. Locke had 145 yards rushing, and VU's Kennard Reeves had a career-high 105 on 19 attempts.

Vanderbilt returns home to face Tennessee, which routed Ole Miss on Saturday, next week.
