One of the Top Recruits in Washington this year is Gonzaga Preps [db]Bishop Sankey[/db]. The Army All American Nominee is on his way into his Senior year. He took a few moments to look ahead at the upcoming season and the road ahead to his Collegiate plans.
Sankey is the #1 Rated running back in the State and is a verbal commit to Washington State. He has been very focused on preparing for the season at hand but has made it known he is still going to look at other options.
Offers have come in from Washington State, the U of W Huskies, Minnesota,Hawaii, Ohio University, Bowling Green, and Army.
"Northwestern appears to be getting close too. That is a good school for sure," he offered.
As far as the question of where he will end up that is still open for debate.
Most likely he will need to assess his options carefully.
"I will make some official visits and see what I need to see before a final decision gets made," he offered. He is still a strong Cougar lean.
He lists finding a comfortable fit as being #1 and not the schools ranking or amount of press. It is all about people and style of program he is looking for.
Spokane is a great town and an intermediate size city with a proud sports tradition. Perhaps these mid sized towns hold the most allure for him. Well we will see.
As far as this years team at Gonzaga Prep goes he feels pretty good.
"We have a young but talented line. They will make some room for me I know. Having Charlie on the edge at TE helps a whole lot to cause he is a load and really a great player," Sankey said.
He is referring to [db]Charlie Hopkins[/db] who is Preps 6'5" 250 pound DE/TE who is considered by most to be one of the top 2-3 Tight Ends and Defensive Ends in the region.
Hopkins is Stanford bound and a firm commit there.
Other players are stepping up and Gonzaga Prep appears to be a team on the rise that can make it deep into the playoff picture this year.
"We have a very athletic QB named Shane Schmidlekoffer and we have some good DB's too. There is some talent here; we just need to play team ball."
The Bull Pups will run a Pistol look to their offense and still run an option series out of that which makes a long day for defenses especially with Hopkins blocking that edge and Sankey able to run wild.
A 2,500 yard season is a goal and in his case attainable. At 5'10", and 190 pounds of mostly muscle Bishop is a lot to handle when he gets going.
Look for our exciting season long series called "Inside the Game" which Sankey and WashingtonPreps.com will bring you each week this year.
Th All American nominee will give us an inside report about his year and experiences. It should be a great series that will give us a true insiders view of America's greatest game.
