Does Greene list Dawgs among favorites?

JEFFERSON - The recruiting process is just getting starter for Rashad Greene, a sophomore from Albany's Westover High.

But a number of top schools are already taking notice in the young receiver, who is looking like one of the state's top prospects for 2011.

Among the schools taking a close look include Georgia, Georgia Tech, Central Florida, Auburn and Notre Dame.

"The past three weeks I've talked with five difference coaches," Greene said. "It's been good for me so far."

Greene said he plans on attending Georgia's Senior Camp scheduled for June 13, although the 6-foot, 180-pounder admits he doesn't currently have the Bulldogs listed among his favorite schools.

"No sir," said Greene. "I like Florida because its offense, but it's all up in the air for me."

With two more years to go before he actually signs a scholarship, Greene admits a lot can change.

"I just want to try and get better," he said. "There's always work that needs to be done. I'm really just starting to be recruited, so I've got plenty of time before I have to really worry what I need to do."

In the meantime, Greene said he will heed the advice of his parents to continue focusing on his academics.

"I've always been taught that I need to have my academics in order before I can ever worry about sports," Greene said. "That's been my top priority and that of my family for a long time."

Greene finished third in the Class AAA 400-meter dash with a time of 48.270, besting his state qualifying time of 48.7.

"I love running track," he said. "It's more of an individual sport, but I like it because it gives me a chance to show what I can do."
