UCLA Scrimmage Primer

Today will be a fun day if you are a fan of UCLA football as Rick Neuheisel's young team will be cracking the pads trying to get the attention of their position coach in hopes to keep their spot or rise on the depth chart. If you are going to take in today's scrimmage at 12:30 PM PST and if both sides of the ball play as they have the first six games you may be surprised by a few things.

The first thing you may notice is the improvement of the offensive line. Not only do they look bigger and stronger, but they are actually opening holes and doing a nice job in pass protection. Again this unit plays as they have you leave the scrimmage with the hope that this offense is going to score points.

While this unit is far from the finished product, for the first time in a long time, it appears that the Bruins will have quality depth that is two-deep at every position. The offensive line has been without Darius Savage and Mike Harris, two key contributors, who were coming on late last season and are expected to contribute again.

Perhaps the second thing you will notice is the depth the Bruins have at running back. All of them will be out to show Norm Chow and Wayne Moses that they deserve to be the guy to tote the rock.

With Christian Ramirez and Chane Moline still nursing injuries and are not expected to play will give others the chance for more reps. All of the backs that are in this competition are running hard and that's a good thing to see.
