Does patience pay off?
Patience might be a virtue in life but does it carry the same weight in recruiting? Early in the process it seemed as if Ohio State and Lauderhill (Fla.) safety Vladimir Emilien were destined for one another. The four star Floridian used terms like first-love to describe how he felt about the Buckeyes after a tremendous trip to the Ohio State spring game and it only seemed as if it would be a matter of time before The Hit Man would be part of the Ohio State recruiting class.
But somewhere along the line the wires got crossed up and Emilien did not join the class and it seemed as if the first love would never come to pass with the 6-foot-1, 186-pounder looking elsewhere in the Big Ten and around the nation when it appeared that the Buckeyes decided to go in a different direction.
In recruiting just like love nothing is over until it is over and Emilien's recruitment might not quite be over yet. Safeties coach Paul Haynes made the bye-week trip down to South Florida and stopped in and checked on the nation's No. 16 safety prospect according to Rivals.com.
"Coach Haynes was down here talking about their interest in me," Emilien said.
There are precious few spots left in the current Ohio State recruiting class with big names like Marcus Hall, Corey Adams and Marlon Brown still on the board to name a few. But it is hard to find top-flight safety prospects and the Buckeyes are prepared to work hard to try and find a spot to get the big hitter into the class if he so chooses.
"They are going to get in on me hard," Emilien said. "They are going to have a lot more interest in me now."
After a substantial period of no contact between the two parties it almost takes the entire process back to square one and Emilien would like to have another opportunity to see what it was about Ohio State that got him so interested in the first place.
"I want to go back up and visit up there and see how I feel again because I lost a little bit of interest because they had not contacted me," Emilien said "Right now I am just trying to go with the flow."
Right now the target date would be to make an official visit during the weekend of the Ohio State versus Michigan game. Emilien knows all about the Wolverines after returning from Ann Arbor (Mich.) this past weekend from an official visit. The Sunshine state prospect is looking deep within the Big Ten and has a pair of conference foes at the top of his list.
"Right now it is between Wisconsin and Michigan," "They both impressed me when I went to go visit them so they are both on top right now."
Could a strong visit to Ohio State during the end of November help the Buckeyes draw even on the list of contenders?
"I believe so," Emilien said.
