Louisiana Tech nabs in-state linebacker

Louisiana Tech has stayed in state to add some quality depth to its linebacking corps with a new commitment out of New Orleans (La.) O. Perry Walker. On Tuesday, three-star outside linebacker Kendrick James gave his pledge to the Bulldogs.

"I committed to Louisiana Tech today," James said on Tuesday evening. "I talked to Coach Joseph and Coach Dooley today and they were excited about my decision."

James, who anchors the defense for one of the top programs in the southern Louisiana area, named several factors that contributed to his October decision, including a favorable depth chart.

"I liked the atmosphere on campus, the coaches and the opportunity to come in and play early because they lose three senior linebackers," he said.

The timing of the decision for James came because he felt that he had built a strong relationship with the Louisiana Tech coaching staff and felt the most love from the program.

"I was just going to see who showed the most interest in me and Louisiana Tech showed the most interest in me," he said. "I was just talking to coach Dooley a lot and he was talking to me about the opportunities at Louisiana Tech and it sounded good."

James was being recruited heavily by several other programs but the location of Louisiana Tech gave the Bulldogs an edge.

"I was considering Minnesota. I was considering Mississippi State, Louisiana-Monroe, North Carolina. I was considering LSU. Being an instate school, that kind of gave them an advantage."

James, who impressed in several settings over the summer, has already seen his hard work paying off on the field. Not only is his team off to a 3-1 start but James has seen steady improvements in his own play.

"I've been making a lot of tackles," he said. "I've improved my game. My open field tackles and my pass coverage are better. Our summer workouts were real hard and it helped me out a lot."

James has yet to visit Louisiana Tech but he will be on campus on Oct. 18 for Louisiana Tech's game against Idaho.
