Louisiana RB looking to get back on track
In 2007 White Castle, La. running back Jyruss Edwards led the state of Louisiana in rushing, shattering the 2,000 yard mark and rarely turning in less than 200 yards in a single game. The 2008 season has not started out quite as quickly for a number of reasons but Edwards is confident he will get back on track.
"Friday I had an alright game," Edwards said. "It wasn't too good. I had 110 yards and one touchdown. They're trying to give me less carries in my senior season. I think they're going to start picking it up though."
Whether he's getting 13 carries a game or 30, Edwards is happy to be back on the football field. The hurricanes that hit Louisiana left his family in an uncomfortable state for weeks.
"We stayed in town during the hurricanes," he said. "It was horrible without power. We were without power for like two weeks. We had no air at night. You can survive during the day time but at night you couldn't even open the windows because the mosquitoes were so bad."
With numerous players living with family members or staying in foreign settings, the return to school has not been easy either. However, Edwards is hoping to lead his team back on track.
"The goal is deep playoffs and hopefully state," he said. "We're looking to have a big game this Friday and that's going to help us out. Everybody's looking at me like I'm supposed to be the leader so I guess I gotta step up"
Recruiting has been surprisingly quiet for one of the top players in Louisiana but Edwards continues to hear from all of the in-state Louisiana schools except for LSU.
"I'm hearing from Southeastern, Louisiana Tech, really every school in the state except for LSU," he said. "They talk to my coach and my coach doesn't' really tell me anything during the season so I couldn't even tell you if they've offered."
Currently, Edwards holds a Louisiana Tech offer and he recently took an unofficial visit to Southeastern.
