2010 QB up to four offers
Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith junior quarterback Phillip Sims had received three offers even before coaches were allowed to directly contact him on September 1. Since that date interest has picked up even more and Sims has added another offer.
Sims, a 6-foot-1, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback who figures to be among the top prospects in Virginia's Class of 2010, had received verbal offers from Alabama, Boston College and Tennessee prior to this week. Now a new school has entered the mix.
"My most recent offer is from Clemson," Sims said. "So that puts me at four right now. I didn't get to talk to them, but I know they faxed the offer to my coach.
"There are no favorites right now because I don't know enough about the schools and I haven't taken visits. I'm just going to be open to everybody and look for a school that wins, a program with good tradition and the coaching staff. I'm not going to look at location or anything like that.
"I want to play for the best coaching staff I can find. That's going to matter a lot more than location."
Sims has led his team to a 3-0 record so far this season. He's seen progress in his game over the past year.
"A lot of my improvement has been in my mobility," he explained. "I'm just able to get in and out of the pocket faster and make more plays."
Sims also expects at least two other schools to extend offers in the near future.
"I'm expecting Georgia to offer a scholarship too," he said. "I know Florida State is close to offering, too. I can't even think of all of them off the top of my head. There are some others. I feel like I could play well in any offense."
