Countdown to Camp: The kicking game

Fall camp opens up in 16 days. Over the next couple of weeks, PowerMizzou.com will continue to get Tiger fans completely prepped for the biggest season in school history. Today, we continue our in-depth breakdowns of the fall situation at every position on the field. We move on to the special teams.

The Starters: At four of the six special teams spots, the Tigers are set. Jeff Wolfert is one of the best kickers in the country and Jeremy Maclin is one of the best return men. Tommy Saunders will handle the holder duties on extra points and field goals. At punter Jake Harry is the projected starter, but he will have to prove himself in fall camp. The longsnapping job should be either Brock Christopher or Jon Gissinger, though walk-on Terry Dennis could get a look as well.

Major Camp Storyline: This is all about punting. Harry has to show he has improved from last fall and spring and show the coaches they can have some confidence in the punting game. Missouri is set in the other facets of the special teams game.

Position Rating: 7. Wolfert is a ten. So is Maclin. But the questions at punter are so glaring that we simply can't put this above a 7 for now.
