Irish offer Carson
For weeks, Glenn Carson thought Notre Dame was close to extending a scholarship offer. He was right as the Irish joined Tennessee and Cincinnati in offering the 6-foot-3, 220-pound four-star linebacker from Manahawkin, N.J.
"Wednesday night he had a chance to talk with (Notre Dame) and they offered him," said Carson's father, Glenn Sr.
The Irish join a long list of other schools vying for Carson's services, including Penn State and Rutgers, two schools Carson has indicated will remain near the top of his list of favorites.
With the offer, Notre Dame likely will earn a spot on that list.
"Obviously, it's a great school with a great tradition," Carson, Sr. said. "We're all excited about it. It's not often you get schools of that caliber. Glenn has some great offers, but Notre Dame is one of the best ones."
Carson is camping at Penn State through the weekend and he previously indicated that he'd like to visit several other schools this summer. One of those schools was Notre Dame.
Carson began hearing from the Irish last month after sending his highlight to the coaching staff. His uncle, Dan Higgins, is the head coach at Piscataway High School and knows someone that works at Notre Dame. That relationship helped get word to the Irish coaching staff that there's a prospect Southern Regional High School worth a look.
Several weeks later that lead turned into a scholarship offer and the Irish could be in the running to land the nation's No. 22 inside linebacker.
