Five-star DT reacts to A&M visit

In its short time on the job, the Texas A&M coaching staff under new head coach Mike Sherman has made a concerted effort to expand its reach beyond the state of Texas.

It's a strategy that has resulted in a number of offers to top prospects across the country but slow progress until Monday when five-star defensive tackle Chris Davenport from Mansfield (LA) made an unofficial visit to the A&M campus.

It was a coup for Sherman and company since the 6-foot-4, 318-pound Davenport boasts offers from just about every major school in the country (including USC and Michigan) in addition to SEC powers such as Florida, LSU and Alabama. In addition, the Aggies represented only the fourth trip to a college campus that he has taken so far with the others are Ole Miss, Alabama and LSU.

The Rivals.com five-star prospect has scholarship offers from Texas A&M, LSU, Alabama, Boston College, Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Minnesota, Ole Miss, USC, Tennessee and Texas Tech.
