West Monroe athlete picks up his first
The first offer is in for West Monroe, La. athlete D.J. Banks. It may not be the in-state school that he is hoping for but it is exciting nonetheless and will certainly be a program he'll be taking a look at.
"My offer was Tulane," Banks said. "They offered me to play receiver and also DB too and I might be returning kicks also."
The versatile athlete plays quarterback for West Monroe's powerful high school program but projects best as a defensive back or possibly as a slot receiver. He picked up the offer on Thursday and made it clear he was excited about the interest.
"It was the first one," he said. "I'd been waiting on it. I wouldn't mind playing there."
Banks claims that position doesn't matter to him at the next level as long as he's on the field.
"It really doesn't matter to me what I play," he said. "I'm just trying to get there."
Banks is currently receiving interest from ULM, Louisiana Tech and Mississippi State and said that Mississippi State has told him that an offer will be coming soon. However, there is one school in particular that Banks really has his eye on and it may not be much of a surprise what that school is.
"I'm hoping LSU offers me," said Banks, who hopes to attends next weekend's Junior Day at LSU as long as his baseball schedule permits. "You can't not like LSU. It's a great school, lots of support, great coaches and a great staff."
So would Banks commit if an LSU offer came his way?
"I would have to think about it," he said. "But I would probably commit there because it doesn't get any better than that."
