Vols Offer Elite 2009 DT, Davenport
Tennessee's biggest need in the class of 2008 will once again be its biggest need in the class of 2009. Phillip Fulmer and staff took hack after hack at defensive tackles in the just-completed class, but only made late-contact by landing little known Montori Hughes. Because of that, the Vols' staff has quickly turned its attention to tackles the same spot 09', with Mansfield, Louisiana product, Chris Davenport emerging as an early target.
"He is a very intense player," Wolverines Head Coach Donald Mayweather said. "I think he could be great. He plays both end and tackle for me along with the offensive line, but if he concentrates on one area, he could be really good."
Already projected as one of the top tackles in the 2009 class, Davenport is hardly a secret recruiting offices around the country. In fact, Tennessee is in a battle to just be in the mix for consideration.
Rivals.com rates Davenport as the No. 18 overall prospect and the No. 4 defensive tackle in the initial rankings for the Class of 2009.
