McNeal is making a name for himself

Minneapolis Breck junior receiver Bryce McNeal did not enter the recent Army combine as a complete unknown with four BCS offers already in hand. After his performance in San Antonio he will certainly see that number grow in the coming months. McNeal was named to the first team as a receiver at the combine after displaying great hands and speed. He spoke with GI.com to recap his experience and talk recruiting.

McNeal was one of two receivers named to the first team at the Army All-American Combine. McNeal was very happy with his performance and the way he represented Minnesota.

"I had a great time down in San Antonio. Obviously I performed really well down there. It was a big honor to be named to the first team. Minnesota is not always known to put out great football players, but I think I showed people what Minnesota guys can do. Playing in Minnesota we don't get to play against some of the best players in the country and it was great to go up against many of the top defensive backs in my class and show them what I could do."

Prior to the combine McNeal had already caught the eye of at least four programs.

"Right now I have four offers. Minnesota, Colorado, Nebraska, and Iowa have all offered me. The receivers coach at UConn told me that as soon as the head coach gets back from being out of town that they will be sending me an offer too. At this point I plan on taking my time and seeing what happens, but I am really excited about the offers that I have. I get a lot of mail from schools like LSU, Ohio State, Michigan, North Carolina and USC. I will let things play out for awhile before I make a decision."

McNeal made the short trip across town to the University of Minnesota on Sunday to attend a junior day.

"I had a really good time at the U on Sunday. I spent a lot of time talking with Coach McDonald about football and how he likes to use his receivers. He told me that he thinks that if work hard that I could come in and play right away. I really like Coach McDonald and his coaching style, I know that he would really help be to become a great receiver."

"I also got to go in and talk with Coach Brewster in his office for awhile. We talked about how important it is for Minnesota kids to stay home and play for the Gophers. He also told me that they just signed a new contract with Nike and that they would be getting brand new uniforms this year. I actually got to hold one of the new jerseys and they are really nice. We also saw the newest videos of the new stadium, that place is going to be really nice."

While he admits that he is not near a decision, McNeal is very high on Minnesota.

"I love the staff at Minnesota. Every coach over there is great. Coach Brewster is one of those coaches who gets everyone excited about playing football and is the kind of coach that I can see myself playing for. I really like the offense that they are putting in, I want to play in the spread because I think it would allow me to make a lot of plays. The U is going to be at the top of my list for the entire process. I really like Minnesota and the program that Coach Brewster is building. They are going to win a lot of games there."
