Moreno named All-SEC

Many of the SEC coaches probably had no idea who Knowshon Moreno was when the league converged in Birmingham, Ala.
last July for Media Days.

They obviously do now.

The league coaches voted Moreno to the All-SEC first-team announced Tuesday, the only freshman to make the first-team squad.

Tennessee freshman cornerback Eric Berry made the second team.

Moreno, who earlier this season joined Herschel Walker as the only Bulldog freshman to rush for at least 1,000 yards, has 239 carries for 1,273 yards and 12 touchdowns entering Georgia's Sugar Bowl date with Hawaii Jan. 1 in New Orleans.

Center Fernando Velasco and linebacker Dannell Ellerbe were both named to the second team.

SEC champion LSU had a league-best 10 representatives on the squad, including seven members of the first team.

Eleven of the 12 SEC schools had a member on the first-team squad, including Alabama and Arkansas with four each.

Each SEC squad had at least two players represented on the first and second teams.
Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Kentucky linebacker Wesley Woodyard and the LSU trio of defensive linemen Glenn Dorsey, linebacker Ali Highsmith and safety Craig Steltz were all unanimous selections.

The All-SEC squad had 13 first-team seniors and 18 underclassmen, including 11 juniors, six sophomores and Moreno as the lone freshman.

Moreno is also a leading candidate for SEC Freshman of the Year, which will be announced Thursday.
