Texas 'backer takes first official visit

Since last caught up with R.J. Young, the linebacker prospect from Desoto (Texas) High has racked up quite a few scholarship offers.

Colorado, Kansas, Arizona, Louisville, Rice, San Diego State, West Virginia and Fresno State are all actively pursuing his signature.

Young took his first official visit out to Colorado this past weekend, and he came away impressed.

"It was fun, I had a good time," he said of his time in Boulder. "I really liked the team and the coaches were cool. It was my second time going out there. They really impressed me, I really liked it. And I am interested in them a lot. I am really looking into them."

Junior wide receiver Patrick Williams, who also attended Desoto High, served as Young's player host for the weekend.

"I pretty much just hung around the team and the players and I just experienced the whole lifestyle of what it's like to be a college football player and student there," said the 6-foot-0, 210-pounder.

Young does not currently have any other official visits lined up right now, but he said he plans to check out Arizona and Kansas before reaching a decision. "I'm just kind of waiting, taking it week by week to see what happens right now," he added.

Young will wait until the conclusion of his senior season to take any more trips. His team will play Arlington Bowie for the district championship this week.

"I have been watching film on them since last week," he said of Bowie. "They are a very fast and physical team. And they have a good arsenal of plays. We will have to play a good game to win."

Young has recorded roughly 70 tackles and two quarterback sacks so far this season.
