Anthony Davis: Making a fresh start
When Anthony Davis signed on to become a Scarlet Knight, it seemed as if it was only a matter of time before the nationally ranked recruit broke into the starting lineup. The promising freshman came into training camp with some excess weight and initially, it looked like his rise to the first team might take a little longer than expected. However, a few weeks into the season, Davis proved that his work ethic is just as exceptional as his level of talent.
"I just do whatever Coach asks me to do," said Davis. "The only person I could ever be disappointed in is myself. The coaches give everybody a fair shot."
The quick rise up the depth chart has been particularly pleasing to head coach Greg Schiano.
"Physically, he came in a little bit heavy," said Schiano. "It took time for him to get that under control. I think Coach Flood is the best teacher there is out here. Even with his tutelage, it took a little while for him to understand. He knew it, but there's a difference between knowing it in the classroom and knowing it at high speed. When you make high speed decisions, it's tough on the offensive line because if you make a mistake the guy runs you over."
Davis may be one of the most heralded recruits Rutgers has ever landed, but despite all the attention he received throughout his recruitment, he is now more grounded than ever.
