Auburn hoping injury bug bites elsewhere

The injury bug has been unkind to Auburn, especially on defense. So far this season, five defensive starters have missed a total of 12 games including four who were out against Vanderbilt.

Watching from the sidelines Saturday were defensive end Quentin Groves (dislocated toes), linebackers Tray Blackmon (ankle) and Merrill Johnson (shoulder), and safety Aairon Savage (knee).

Still, AU held a solid Vandy offense to just 221 total yards and seven points.

"With four starters out, I thought that we held up pretty well," said AU head coach Tommy Tuberville. "Early in the game, we gave our offense plenty of possessions and good field position. That's the way you're supposed to play."

Tuberville is hoping to have most of the injured defenders back this week for the Arkansas game.

"We'll know more after (Sunday)," he said. "I hope we get a couple of them back. I was hoping for Blackmon to be back last week and that didn't happen."

The offense has also had its share of injured starters including center Jason Bosley who sprained his knee right before halftime of the Vandy game.

"It doesn't look good (for Bosley) this week," said Tuberville. "We'll have to wait and see. There's swelling."
