Miners begin practice

The El Paso sun warmed up Glory Field like an oven, and unfortunately for players, media and the coaching staff there was no shade to cool off. Despite the uncomfortable heat, the UTEP players sprinted during drills and gave maximum effort throughout.

"I thought practice was good," head coach Mike Price said. "It's a work in progress."

Coach Price was alluding to the obvious youth the team possesses at the skill positions and defense. But was quick to point out that all of the veterans were on track.

"The guys that stayed here (El Paso) all summer, worked out hard and stayed in great shape rebounded real easy," Price said. "They flew through it (practice)."

Fumble, passing, blocking and tackling drills were the norm for today's practice but the Miners should expect to get more done once they get to Socorro, N.M.

"Most of the work will happen in Soccoro," Price said. "We're not in pads both of the days were are here (El Paso)."
