Fall camp preview: 5 position battles

The competition for playing time at Alabama's fall camp will be everywhere, but the battles will be more heated at some spots than others. Here is a look at BOL's five key position battles:

1. RIGHT TACKLE

The leading candidates: Chris Capps, B.J. Stabler, Mike Johnson, Cody Davis.
The outlook: Competition here should be as wide open as any position on the field. A sore spot for several years, improvement at right tackle will be critical to both the running game and pass protection. Neither Capps nor Stabler were able to show coaches their best work in the spring thanks to injuries. Much like receiver Keith Brown, Stabler is effective in stretches but never seems to be quite right physically. There has been no shortage of criticism for Capps - particularly in the area of pass protection - but the senior-to-be has managed to ward off all comers on the depth chart in making 24 consecutive starts. Johnson has bounced around different spots on the line with regularity since arriving on campus, and the versatility could make him valuable in a pinch. For now, he's in the right spot for a chance at some action.
