Stevens staying open

Hemet (Calif.) offensive lineman Hamani Stevens verbally committed to UCLA Saturday, but that commitment is as soft as the pillow he used to rest his head on later that night.

The next morning, Stevens wanted to redefine his pledge to the Bruins. Struggling with the thought of bringing the recruiting process to a halt, his commitment was only the end of the beginning.

After winning NIKE Camp MVP in Eugene (Ore.), the 6-foot-3, 276-pound all-state selection became a recruiting target the Bruins wanted to wrap up early. While Stevens verbally accepted UCLA's scholarship offer, his commitment came with hesitation.
