O-D East Notebook: Quarterback derby

OAKLAND PARK, Fla.- The East team held two workouts in preparation for the inaugural Offense-Defense All-American Bowl on Sunday at Northeast High School.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Thursday and will be televised live by ESPNU. Rivals.com is the official selection partner for the event.

Quarterbacks Stephen Garcia of Tampa Jefferson and Cameron Newton of Atlanta Westlake rotated during both sessions, getting accustomed to the wide-open offensive attack that the Hoover (Ala.) High coaches will install this week for the game.

Both quarterbacks weren't perfect in terms of accuracy, but showed why they are considered two of the top prospects at their position in the country.

Garcia, a South Carolina commit, showed a quick release and a strong arm while Newton was accurate on most of his long and short throws. Both appeared to be gaining more comfort with the offense as the afternoon session wore on.
