Auburn Redshirt Report Part I: The Defense

Auburn is redshirting an impressive 22 players this fall including 10 on defense. The group is made up from a talented 2006 class that was ranked 10th in the country and includes six defensive linemen.

Those defensive linemen will be thrown into the mix when bowl practice starts in a couple of weeks and even moreso when spring drills get underway in April.

"I think as a group the big thing that jumps out at you is they're big, athletic kids," said AU defensive coordinator Will Muschamp. "We're going to improve our size up front with guys that can hold the point better inside and at the defensive end position.

"There are a lot of the type of players we need to have and I think it's an outstanding defensive line class."

The defensive tackles and noseguards include Greg Smith, Bart Eddins and Mike Blanc. Bryant Miller and Darrell Roseman are slated to play defensive end while Zach Clayton could play either position.

In addition to going through extra workouts with head strength and conditioning coach Kevin Yoxall, the redshirts were put through extra practice time each Sunday and will be the focus of much of bowl practice including a couple of scrimmages.
