NU Notes: Huskers and Sooners will get physical

If there's one common theme about Nebraska and Oklahoma heading into Saturday's Big 12 Championship Game in Kansas City, it's that both NU and OU have prided themselves in being physical.

The Sooners (188.7) and Huskers (183.2) have both featured downhill running styles that have their rushing attacks ranked 14th and 18th in the nation.

There's no doubt both teams will try to establish the ground game Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium and NU head coach Bill Callahan said this will be one of the major keys to the game.

"The big thing is their ability to run the football with the physical nature of their attack," Callahan said. "They are a downhill running team, very similar to an old Big Ten football team. Dotting the "I", coming downhill, trying to run the power counter, some misdirection off of it, but by and large they are coming downhill. You have to give them a lot credit.

"Their ability to play at a high tempo, play with good speed, and play hard, that's the thing that you notice on film. That's really their trait, that they are a very physical running football team. So that will be a challenge to our front, a challenge to our players."

Junior linebacker Corey McKeon said the physical style the Sooners play with is definitely something that stands out when he watches them on film.
