Sooners back in Big 12 title chase

Paul Thompson's final home game of his Oklahoma football career ended up being his best as he threw for 309 yards and rushed for 26 more as the Oklahoma Sooners erased a seven-point halftime deficit and defeated Texas Tech 34-24 inside Gaylord Memorial-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in front of a record crowd of 85, 313.

Thompson's aerial theatrics were never more in need as the Sooners took the field against the Red Raiders missing their top two running backs. Allen Patrick suffered an ankle injury late in the Texas A&M game and couldn't heal fast enough to make his way back on Saturday evening.

The Sooners turned to Thompson to supply the fireworks and Oklahoma outlasted Texas Tech thanks to 153 receiving yards from Malcolm Kelly.

"Paul can play and can play awfully well. This doesn't surprise me and we went in knowing that last week wasn't us," said Bob Stoops. "That wasn't it. Paul can throw the football, we can catch the ball, we can protect the quarterback and we went in and made sure this week that we went in and had the balance that we have in the past and we showed it."
