Top in-state junior set to visit Boulder
Many have already anointed Jon Major the top prospect in Colorado for the Class of 2007.
The 6-foot-4, 218-pound junior linebacker from Parker (Colo.) Ponderosa has picked up early scholarship offers from Wisconsin and Utah. It is only a matter of time before that list expands.
Early on, Major is also looking at Colorado, California, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oregon, Stanford, UCLA and Washington.
"I am making a game day visit to CU this week for the K-State game," he explained. "I am really looking forward to it. I was in Madison this past weekend for the Wisconsin-Illinois game. It was a great visit."
Major also took an unofficial visit up to South Bend earlier this fall.
"The Notre Dame visit was awesome," he said in a recent Rivals.com update. "I had a great game day visit to South Bend. I had a chance to meet [wide receivers] coach Rob Ianello in person as well as [head] coach Charlie Weis. I was very impressed with the school, facilities, coaches and the community in general. The game day atmosphere was incredible."
An all-conference honoree as a sophomore in 2005, Major recorded 108 tackles. He racked up 84 tackles (41 solo and 43 assisted) and one interception in nine regular season games this season.
"I am versatile," Major said. "I play safety sometimes and go back into coverage. I'm also good at supporting the run. I like being a linebacker because you're the leader of the defense. You get to control that side of the ball. It's also the most hit-able position. You get to knock some heads."
Major and his teammates will face Doherty in the first round of the 5A state playoffs this Friday.
