On a beautiful Thursday night at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, USC completed its third scrimmage of Fall Camp.
While the Trojans' passing game has yet to light up the scoreboard in scrimmage play, Thursday's contest saw the offense move the ball through the air with flashes of brilliance. John David Booty and Mark Sanchez ended the night completing 17 of 36 passes.
While consistency still escapes the passing game, this was the first scrimmage where both Booty and Sanchez ran the offense with a full playbook at their disposal. The result; 13 different receivers caught passes Thursday for a total of 261 yards.
Without starters Dwayne Jarrett and Chauncey Washington standing on the sidelines, the Trojan offense continued to use youth to move the ball on the ground. Following some of his best practices of camp, Emmanuel Moody exploded in Thursday's scrimmage with 128 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries.
Fellow freshman tailback Stafon Johnson continued to shine with another 62 yards rushing on nine carries during the 86-play scrimmage. The defense was led by junior Keith Rivers, whose move to inside linebacker has given the Trojans a very fast front-seven.
Not playing in Sunday's scrimmage: Kevin Thomas, Chauncey Washington, Dwayne Jarrett, Travis Tofi, Luthur Brown, Jamere Holland and Nick Vanderboom. Limited in action were Fred Davis, Desmond Reed and Steve Smith, with Reed being limited to only punt returns.
