Bennett removed from practice with leg injury

The one player Vanderbilt did not want to see go down with an injury became the first casualty of fall camp.

Wide receiver Earl Bennett, a freshman All-American, removed himself from practice after suffering a leg injury at approximately 8 p.m. Central Time on Sunday evening.

Bennett was not available to the media for comment following practice. However, Vanderbilt Coach Bobby Johnson issued a brief remark regarding the injury after practice.

"I saw what happened. I'm just assuming it was some problem with his hamstring. We won't know for a while," said Johnson.

Bennett had beaten his defender on a deep sideline route, and then pulled up lame just before the ball arrived. He jogged to the sideline of the practice field, where he bent over and grabbed his leg just above his right knee.
