WVU first offer for Cali DB
California hasn't been a traditional recruiting hotbed for West Virginia over the years, but the Mountaineers became the first school to extend a scholarship offer to a cornerback from Oakland's Bishop O'Dowd High School.
Kevin King, 6-foot-2, 175-pounds, wasn't expecting an offer from West Virginia; in fact he hadn't even heard from any programs on the East Coast before the contact from the Mountaineers.
"They had been talking to coach Hardy about me and got my film and my tape and didn't waste any time," he said. "Coach Daron Roberts gave me the good news and it was exciting. I didn't really have much contact with them prior to the offer but I've been watching West Virginia and that's a big school."
