Commit Update: Sims talks UA future

Phillip Sims
Position: Quarterback Position Ranking: 2nd-ranked pro-style quarterback.
Commitment Date: 4/15/2009.
Recruited By: Curt Cignetti, Sal Sunseri.

Current Height and Weight?: "I'm 6-foot-2, 225 pounds right now, which I feel pretty good about."

On his future jersey number: "I really don't mind one way or the other but I guess if I got to pick I would take either 1 or 14."

On his 13-1 senior season at Oscar Smith High School: "It was really special, going out there playing every game knowing it was my last season with my friends and teammates. I went out there and gave it my all every game and really had a great season even though we came up one game short of the state title."

On what he likes to do outside of football: "Shop. I like shopping for anything. Clothes, shoes, really anything that makes me look good."

On his love for basketball: "I played basketball from my freshman to my junior year of high school and really coming into high school, I was all about basketball. I thought that was where my future was. I went out for football as a freshman just for fun and our starting quarterback got hurt just a few games into the season and I ended up starting for the rest of the year. Everything kind of took off from there. I love football more and more every year I play."

On his future roommates at Alabama: "I'm not sure who I'm living with yet but I'm talking to DeMarcus Milliner and Jalston Fowler about living with them. They are cool guys and we all got along pretty well when we hung out at games."

On what he plans to study at Alabama: "I'm going to study business. The business school at Alabama is one of the best in the country."

On the biggest factor in his decision to choose Alabama: "Being on campus was what made my mind up. The environment on a game day is not like anything you see anywhere else. The fans get so fired up no matter who the team is playing and they never let up until the day's over. That's just a special place to be on a Saturday in the fall."

On who he grew up rooting for: "I really was never a fan of any of the Virginia schools. I kind of rooted for all the Florida schools as a kid, Miami, FSU and Florida. They were all just really fun to teams to watch. They had great players and they had swagger, just that attitude of being a winner and being dominant. I really liked that."

On his expectations for his freshman season: "I think you can't go into a situation thinking you have no chance at starting because there's already a good player at your position. You've got to aim to be a starter, study hard, compete, get good grades, do everything you have to do to put yourself in position to win that job. It's not about not respecting the other players. I'd be doing myself a disservice and the team a disservice if I did anything less than try my hardest to win the job. That's the approach I'm taking."
