OU focuses on slowing down Beasley
The early-season dominance of Kansas State newcomer Michael Beasley has been well documented, and the K-State forward, who has registered a mind-boggling 13 double-doubles in 14 games this season, is quickly becoming a household name. While most of the limelight will likely be focused on Beasley when the Wildcats arrive in the Sooner State to do battle with 12-3 Oklahoma on Saturday, he won't be the only freshman sensation on the floor.
Oklahoma's Blake Griffin is also posting head-turning statistics in his first season as a college athlete. The Oklahoma City native is averaging 14.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game, while also leading the Sooners in both steals and blocks this year. So while Griffin won't be the most recognizable freshman face on the floor Saturday, he certainly won't be overlooked.
"The impact he's had on our program has been tremendous, and I think he's getting better and better," said Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel of his star freshman. "I think he's just starting to scratch the surface of the player he can become."
