Shannon: Cristobal loss won't affect recruiting

At 8:30 this morning, Mario Cristobal walked into the team's offensive meeting and broke the news that he would be taking the head coaching job at FIU. He spoke to the players for 20 minutes.

"He just told us that an opportunity was given to him that he couldn't pass up," lineman Alex Pou said. "He said it was his dream to become a head coach, that this was what he wanted. He said he loves this program, had so much passion for it, but couldn't pass it up.

"He was close (to tears), but he's a tough guy. I think he let them all out once he left the room."

Pou said players expected him to take the job, so they weren't surprised at the announcement.

Players spoke to Cristobal's recruiting ability - he is considered one of the nation's top recruiters.
