Chase Budinger heading back home

The last time UA freshman Chase Budinger played on the Cox Arena court, he was named co-MVP of the McDonald's All-American game. It's going to be tough to have a performance which can top that this Saturday against San Diego State, the but the Aztecs are going to prepare to do what they can to assure it doesn't happen.

So far this season, Budinger is averaging 19.4 points and 6.9 rebounds a game while shooting 59.1% from the field. He's not only been one of the nation's top freshmen but top players as well.

The 6-foot-8 freshman grew up in San Diego and is considered one of the city's top athletes of all time. He'll be heading back home this weekend and San Diego State head coach Steve Fisher is well aware of what Budinger is capable of.

"He leads them in scoring," Fisher said. "He may lead them, or is close to leading them in minutes played. He jumps center for them and he started from the moment he walked on campus. He is what he is hyped up to be. He is an extremely talented, poised basketball player."

Budinger also has the respect of San Diego State's players. Star Aztec Brandon Heath got to know Budinger this summer and has seen his talent first hand.
