Clemson one of several summer stops for Florida DB

It should be a busy summer for Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Nease cornerback Mario Butler. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder said Thursday night he has five unofficial visits to take before making a verbal commitment in July.

"I know for sure I'm going to visit Maryland, Virginia Tech, South Carolina, Clemson and Georgia Tech," Butler said in an interview with Tigerillustrated.com.

"I've got over 25 offers now, West Virginia, Clemson, Maryland, South Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Arkansas, Nebraska, UCLA, Cal, Illinois, Boston College, Louisville and Vanderbilt are some of them," said the Nease standout. "I don't actually have a list narrowed down yet, but I know the schools I'm visiting this summer. They've recruited me pretty hard."

Butler, who collected 60 tackles, five punt-blocks, six pass-breakups and four interceptions last season, says academics will come first.

"Academics, of course, come first, always," he said. "No matter what, I have to come out of college with a degree. Earning a degree is pretty important, so that's my first option. How I get along with coaches is important, too. I also want a chance to compete as a freshman."
