Memorial Day Classic: Day One Notebook

Nashville, Tenn- The Nike Memorial Day Classic kicked off at 8:00 this morning and didn't disappoint. Jayhawk Slant sat courtside from start to finish in order to get a close look at a number of KU prospects, including James Anderson, Xavier Henry, Kyle Singler and others.

Arkansas Wings 93, Tennessee Thunder 69:

James Anderson, the 6-foot-5, 190-pound small forward from Junction City (AR) High School didn't have the type of game that he originally expected this morning. The No. 64 player in the class of 2007 managed to score just seven points.

However, there is no doubt that Anderson, a four-star prospect, is a high-major player. He moves extremely well without the basketball and is an outstanding passer. It's almost like he has eyes in the back of his head because of his ability to distribute the ball. One of Anderson's greatest strengths is getting teammates involved with his passing skills.

Anderson's shot clearly wasn't falling this morning and he was unable to finish around the basket, but he found others way to impact the game. He is extremely aggressive on the defensive end of the court and, more importantly, doesn't try to force things on the offensive end of the court. His shot selection is great and Anderson didn't try to rush or force anything.

The No. 15 ranked small forward in the class was clearly upset after the game, but knew that he would have the opportunity to bounce back this weekend.

"I couldn't get my shot going, so I was just trying to look for my teammates," said Anderson. My teammates had a lot of wide-open shots, so I just gave it up. I just wanted to get my teammates more involved. I hope to score more and get more defensive rebounds next game."

When it comes to his recruitment, James is receiving interest from Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and others.
