Local 7-footer has bright future ahead

The secret is out on Jeff Withey. After helping lead San Diego (Calif.) Horizon to a CIF state championship last month, the 7-foot center finds himself a top prospect on recruiting boards both locally and nationally for the Class of 2008.

"All the coaches are all over him," Horizon head coach Waheed Mitchell explained. "He is a 7-foot sophomore with skill, so there is no college out there that doesn't want him.

"He likes a lot of schools but ultimately he just wants to play in a program that has a rich tradition in basketball."

Last season, Withey averaged 12 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.9 blocks per game while shooting 60 from the field.
