11/26 7:23 PM For me, the gist of it is that a more comforting account (even if false) is preferable to one that is less so (even if more likely true). Believing in God (and religious texts) provides comfort, even if it belies reason. I think this is his point regarding how the story "leads to a belief in God". Whether the second account (involving the humans instead of the animals) is actually true isn't the main point, though it's still interesting on its own merits.
