Five sports were contested last week and, as usual, there were outstanding Cougar athletic performances in each.. Both men's and women's hoops took on their rivals while tennis had a big homestand and swimming and track and field had some tune-ups. Several athletes presented worthy performances for consideration, so without further ado, may we present our candidate for CougZone Athlete of the Week….

Previous CougZone Athlete of the Week winner Amanda DuRocher continued to make her case for a spot on the Pac-10 All-Freshman team as she poured in a game-high 20 points in the game against Washington. DuRocher also added six rebounds.

Senior sprinter James McSwain got the 2006 season off to a good start by winning the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes at the McDonald's Collegiate Indoor in Moscow last week

59th-ranked sophomore tennis athlete Ekaterina Burduli swept both of her opponents in four sets, dropping only seven games [24-7] along the way in the Cougars' matches against Idaho [win] and Colorado [loss].

Junior swimmer Kayli Changstrom snagged a pair of individual wins in the 400 medley and 200 butterfly while also helping the team to victory in the 400 medley relay as Wazzu defeated Idaho.

The men's hoop team defeated Washington for the second time this year, completing their first season sweep of the Huskies in over a decade. Australian freshman center Aron Baynes had a double-double in the game as he scored 13 points while bringing down 12 boards. For his performance, Aron Baynes is the CougZone Athlete of the Week.
