Personal: Born May 23, 1988, he is the son of Lorraine Fortson. The left-hander is enrolled in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences.
High School: In 2008, he attended prep school at The Patterson School in Lenoir, N.C. He led his team to a 34-2 record and into the quarterfinals of the National Prep Tournament. He averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 assists and 6.0 steals for Coach Chris Chaney, and was named the No. 7 overall player in the nation by Takkle/Sports Illustrated.
He prepped at Jefferson Davis High School in Montgomery, Ala., and was named his state’s Mr. Basketball by the Alabama Sports Writers Association his senior year when he averaged 23.7 points, 7.1 rebounds and 4.2 steals. As a junior, he averaged 25.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals. Fortson led JDHS to the Class 6A state title as a junior and was named MVP of the state tournament.
